Dale Greene

Dale Greene

Where it began...

Dale Greene was born in the mountains of North Carolina. Growing up on a farm, Greene learned early on the value of hard work. As a teenager, Dale worked as a gas station attendant and drove a school bus while his father labored in the saw mills. After high school, Dale married his sweetheart, Betty Hollar, and they had 5 children. In order to support his family, Dale drove a dump truck for a dollar a hour for over 100 hours a week.

In 1963, Dale Greene and his father-in-law, Lige Hollar, founded Hollar & Greene Produce. Dale and Lige would pick up cabbage at the mountain farms and haul it into town to sell at local farmers market. Over the years, this small farmers' market gig turned into the largest fresh cabbage operation for retail in the United States.

Today, this small family business includes Dale's three sons, many extended family members and over 80 full time employees. Hollar and Greene Produce still collaborates with the local farmers in the Carolinas which helped them get their start.   Now, Hollar and Greene Produce  ships cabbage from over 10 branch offices and 9 states using over 50 Hollar and Greene owned trailer/ tractor rigs and state of the art packing sheds.  Hollar and Greene continues to explore new opportunities to provide for their families and grow their business.
